Why visit?

Dâmbovița County lies in southern Romania, in the Wallachian Plain rising into the Southern Carpathian foothills. Its seat, Târgoviște, served as the capital of Wallachia from 1396 to 1714 and holds the medieval Princely Court complex and the Chindia Tower built under Vlad the Impaler; it was also the site of the trial and execution of Nicolae and Elena Ceaușescu in December 1989.

When is the best time to visit?

May through October offers the mildest weather for touring Târgoviște and the county's foothill towns; winters are cold.
