Izghawa
Umm Şalāl, Qatar
Why visit Izghawa?
Izghawa is a suburban area in the Umm Salal municipality of Qatar, lying roughly 15 km north of central Doha. Originally a small Bedouin settlement, it has expanded rapidly in the 21st century as Doha's northern sprawl reached the area, and today it is characterised by low-rise residential villas, wide streets, and a quiet, family-oriented atmosphere. Its growth has been fuelled by the Al Daayen and Umm Salal real-estate corridor, making it a commuter belt for Doha rather than a tourist destination.
The area lacks the historic landmarks of neighbouring Umm Salal Ali and Umm Salal Mohammed, and its appeal lies more in its convenience as a base for exploring northern Qatar. The landscape is flat, arid, and punctuated by small private farms and construction sites. There is no defined town centre, and facilities are spread across the arterial roads.
Izghawa shares the same extreme climate as the rest of Qatar: very hot summers (May–October, frequently over 40°C) and mild, pleasant winters (November–March). The cooler months are the only comfortable window for any outdoor activity.

By Car / Road
From Doha, take the Doha Expressway north and exit at the Umm Salal / Al Khor junction. Izghawa is a 20-minute drive (about 15 km) from central Doha. Izghawa is spread out and not easily walkable. A car or taxi is essential for getting around. Ride-hailing apps are the most practical option; a trip from one end of the area to the other costs around QR 20–30. No local bus network exists within Izghawa itself.
