Why visit Lusail?

Lusail is a massive planned city roughly 15 km north of Doha, purpose-built to transform Qatar's urban landscape. Conceived in the early 2000s and fast-tracked for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Lusail hosted the tournament's final at the iconic Lusail Stadium. The city is designed around distinct districts — Lusail Marina with its waterfront promenade and yacht club, Entertainment City with theme parks and leisure venues, and several residential quarters (Fox Hills, Al Erkyah, and others) that range from villa compounds to high-rise apartments. Development continues post-World Cup, with new retail, commercial, and cultural spaces opening regularly.

The climate mirrors Doha's: scorching summers (May–September, highs above 40°C) and mild winters (November–March, 20–25°C), with the winter months being the most pleasant for visits. Lusail's layout is car-oriented but increasingly metro-connected, with the central Marina district serving as the main pedestrian-friendly hub.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Hamad International Airport (DOH IATA) is the nearest airport, about 30 km south of Lusail. A taxi or Uber to Lusail costs around QR 80–120 and takes 25–35 minutes via the Lusail Expressway. The Doha Metro Red Line connects the airport to Lusail QNB station (the northern terminus) in about 45 minutes, with a change at Msheireb if needed.

By Train

The Doha Metro Red Line runs from Al Wakra and the airport north to Lusail QNB station, with additional stations at Lusail Marina and Lusail Stadium. Trains run every 5–10 minutes (every 15–20 minutes on Fridays). A standard one-way fare is QR 2.

By Car / Road

Lusail is a 20-minute drive north of central Doha via the Doha Expressway (Al Shamal Road). The city is well-connected by wide boulevards and ample parking is available at most attractions and malls. Karwa public buses also run from Doha's Al Ghanim bus station to Lusail (routes T613, T614).

Lusail is best navigated by car or taxi, as the city's districts are spread over a large area. The Doha Metro provides access between Lusail and Doha but intra-Lusail bus services are limited. Ride-hailing apps (Uber, Karwa) are widely available; a trip within Lusail costs QR 20–40. The Marina waterfront is the most walkable area, with wide promenades and pedestrian plazas.
