Região Autónoma dos Açores (Azores, PT-20) is an autonomous archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 1,500 km west of mainland Portugal. The nine volcanic islands are divided into three groups: Eastern (São Miguel, Santa Maria), Central (Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial), and Western (Flores, Corvo). The Azores are known for their dramatic volcanic landscapes, crater lakes, hot springs, whale watching, and unique Azorean cuisine featuring cozido das Furnas and fresh seafood. Each island has a distinct character, from São Miguel's lush greenery to Pico's dramatic volcanic peak.
