Why visit San Bernardino?
San Bernardino is a resort town on the northern shore of Lake Ypacaraí in Cordillera department, about 40 km east of Asunción. Founded by German immigrants in the 1880s, it retains a Central European character with gabled houses, lakeside promenades, and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. It is the most popular weekend getaway for Asunción residents, with beaches, water sports, and an active nightlife scene during summer. The climate is subtropical; summer (December–February) is high season, but May–September offers more comfortable temperatures.
