About Tobati

Tobatí is a town in Cordillera department, known for its distinctive white clay used in ceramics and pottery. The name means "white earth" in Guaraní. The town has a long pottery tradition, with many families producing earthenware from the local clay. Tobatí is less touristed than the larger craft centres but offers authentic handmade ceramics at low prices. The climate is subtropical; best visited May–September.

Tobatí is on Route PY02, about 60 km east of Asunción (1 hr). Buses from Asunción run every 30 min (GS.7,000–10,000).
