Medanos del Chaco National Park

Boquerón, Paraguay

Why visit Medanos del Chaco National Park?

Medanos del Chaco National Park is a protected area in northern Paraguay, straddling the border between Boquerón and Alto Paraguay departments (the Alto Paraguay entry covers the main description). The Boquerón section covers the southern portion of the dune system, protecting the transition zone between active sand dunes and dry Chaco forest. This unique dune landscape is one of the most unusual geographical features in Paraguay. The park is extremely remote and receives almost no visitors. The best time to visit is the dry season (May–September).
