Beit Ummar is a Palestinian city in the Hebron Governorate, located 6 km north of Hebron city centre on Route 60. With a population of over 25,000, it is one of the larger towns in the governorate. Beit Ummar is known for its agricultural produce, particularly grapes, olives, and stone fruit. Its location on the main north–south route through the West Bank makes it a commercial hub. The city has a predominantly Muslim population and a lively main street. The climate is Mediterranean: hot, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. Spring and autumn are the best visiting seasons.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is 60 km northwest. A taxi costs ₪350–450. Budget: sherut to Jerusalem (₪45), bus to Bethlehem (₪15), then shared taxi via Hebron (₪8).

By Car / Road

Beit Ummar is 6 km north of Hebron on Route 60, about 10 minutes by car. From Bethlehem, it is 10 km south (18 min). Shared taxis on the Bethlehem–Hebron route pass through Beit Ummar frequently (₪5).

The main street is walkable. Shared taxis connect Beit Ummar to Hebron and Bethlehem.

Beit Ummar has no tourist hotels. Nearest accommodation is in Hebron (10 min south): Hebron Hotel (mid-range, from ₪200/night), or Bethlehem (18 min north): Bethlehem Hotel (from ₪250/night).

What should you buy?

Beit Ummar is famous for its grapes (especially the Beit Ummar black grape) and grape products — grape molasses (dibs) and wine vinegar. Olive oil is also excellent. The Thursday market is the best place to buy. Bargaining expected.
