Namsos

Namsos is a charming Norwegian coastal town with a lively harbour, historic buildings, and a strong maritime tradition. Namsos is accessible by road. Buses connect to nearby cities and towns. Local roads are well-maintained but may be narrow in rural areas. Driving offers the most flexibility for exploring the surrounding region.

The town centre is compact and walkable. Local buses cover the wider area. Taxis are available through Norgestaxi or local taxi companies. For exploring the surrounding region, a rental car is recommended.

Norsk Sagbruksmuseum

Tells the history about the Norwegian sawmill industry. This was, around the start of the 19th century, one of Norway’s largest industries with several hundred steam powered sawmills, one of which is the base for this museum. The mill is still occasionally used today to produce high quality replicas for restoration projects. Also at the museum is the M/B "Hauka", a 1934 ship used for towing logs to the mill in summer, and icebreaking in the winter.

Trolley ride .

Cycle with a trolley the old abandoned railway for 13 km (8 mi) from Namsos Camping to Skage. Contact the camping for more information.

Local restaurants and trattorias serve regional cuisine featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients. Traditional dishes reflect the local culinary heritage.

Cafes and bars in the town centre serve coffee, wine, and local beverages. Regional wines and spirits are worth sampling.
