Notably, a relatively large proportion of ethnic Macedonians are Muslim (some identify as Turks or Albanians). Mavrovo is accessible by road from major North Macedonian cities. Regular bus services connect the settlement to Skopje (approximately 1–2 hours depending on the route), Bitola, Ohrid, and other regional centers. The bus station serves as the primary transport hub, with frequent departures to surrounding towns and villages.
By car, Mavrovo is reached via the regional road network. Roads are generally paved and well-maintained on main routes. Parking is usually available in the town center.
Mavrovo is compact enough to explore on foot in its central area, where most shops, restaurants, and points of interest are concentrated. For reaching outlying attractions, taxis are readily available and reasonably priced.
