About Bonny Island

Bonny Island is an island in Rivers State, located at the mouth of the Bonny River on the Atlantic coast. It is one of Nigeria's most important oil and gas hubs — the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) plant, one of the world's largest liquefied natural gas facilities, dominates the island's economy and skyline. The island is also the traditional seat of the Bonny Kingdom, a historic Ijaw monarchy that played a major role in the transatlantic slave trade and later in palm oil commerce. Bonny Town has a mix of modern industrial infrastructure, traditional wooden houses on stilts, and the Bonny Kingdom palace.
