Pindiga

Gombe, Nigeria

Why visit Pindiga?

Pindiga is the seat of Pindiga Emirate, one of the emirates within Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State (alongside the Akko and Gona emirates). The settlement was founded by the Jukun people, reportedly between the 16th and 17th centuries, growing from a small community on a rock outcrop into what is now counted among Gombe State's emirates. Pindiga and the neighbouring Jukun settlement of Kalam were the target of a long, unsuccessful campaign by Gombe Emirate's founding emir, Buba Yero, in the early 19th century; the Jukun of Pindiga were only subdued after British colonial forces defeated Gombe in 1903. Pindiga Emirate was formally recognised as one of nine emirates carved out of Gombe Emirate in 2002 under Governor Abubakar Habu Hashidu. The town celebrates two notable traditional festivals, Eku and Tangra.
