Langtang National Park
Bagmati, Nepal
Why visit Langtang National Park?
Langtang National Park is Nepal's fourth national park, established in 1976 to protect the unique ecosystems of the Langtang, Helambu, and Gosaikunda regions. Covering 1,710 km² north of Kathmandu, it encompasses a dramatic altitudinal range from 1,000 m to the 7,234 m summit of Langtang Lirung. The park is famous for its stunning Himalayan scenery, alpine lakes, hot springs, and the traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages scattered through its valleys. The Langtang Valley was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake but has since recovered.
The best trekking seasons are March–May (rhododendron blooms) and September–November (clear skies). Winters (December–February) are very cold with heavy snow, and the monsoon (June–September) brings rain and leeches.
