Why visit Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park?

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is a protected area on the northern edge of the Kathmandu Valley, established in 2002 and covering 159 km² of forested hills. Formerly a watershed reserve and wildlife hunting area, it now protects the vital watershed that provides much of Kathmandu's drinking water. The park is a popular hiking and bird-watching destination, easily accessible from the capital, and offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan range.

The climate is mild, with warm summers, a monsoon (June–September), and cool winters. The best time to visit is October–March. The park's elevation ranges from 1,366 m to 2,732 m at the summit of Shivapuri Peak.
