About Aus

Aus is a small town in the //Karas Region, located approximately 130 km east of Lüderitz. It is famous for the wild horses of Aus, descendants of German cavalry horses and other horses that escaped during World War I. The herd has survived in the harsh Namib Desert for over a century and can be seen at a dedicated waterhole viewpoint. The surrounding landscape is dramatic, with the desert meeting the mountains.

Aus is on the B4 highway between Lüderitz and Keetmanshoop, approximately 130 km east of Lüderitz.

The town is walkable. A car is needed for the horse viewpoint.
