Xai-Xai

Gaza, Mozambique

Why visit Xai-Xai?

Xai-Xai is the capital of Gaza Province, a coastal city at the mouth of the Limpopo River with a relaxed beach-town atmosphere. Its main draw is Praia do Xai-Xai, a wide expanse of golden sand fringed by coral reefs that offer good snorkelling at low tide. The city has a quiet, provincial character — it is not a major tourist hub like Tofo or Vilanculos, which is precisely its appeal. The Limpopo River forms a broad estuary south of the city, creating a lush wetland ecosystem that attracts birdlife. Xai-Xai's location on the EN1 makes it an easy stopover between Maputo and the northern beaches.
