Dharavandhoo

South Maalhosmadulu, Maldives

Why visit Dharavandhoo?

Dharavandhoo is an island in South Maalhosmadulu, Maldives. With a population of approximately 2000, it is known as home of Dharavandhoo Airport, Baa Atoll gateway. The local community traditionally relies on fishing, with tourism growing rapidly since the government opened local islands to visitors in the 2010s. The Island has embraced guesthouse tourism, and today visitors can experience authentic Maldivian island life alongside comfortable tourist facilities.

The climate is tropical with year-round warm temperatures (28–32°C). The dry northeast monsoon (December–April) brings the best weather; the wet southwest monsoon (May–November) brings more rain but also lush vegetation, better surf conditions, and fewer crowds. The Island is compact enough to explore on foot, with most facilities clustered around the harbour area.

Where to eat?

Airport cafes, local restaurants. Most establishments serve Maldivian staples such as garudhiya (fish broth), mas huni (shredded smoked tuna with coconut), roshi (flatbread), and fresh grilled reef fish. Many guesthouses offer half-board or full-board meal packages; booking at least breakfast is recommended as restaurant options may be limited.
