How do you get there?

By Plane

Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) — take a charter flight (1.5 hr) arranged by the resort. At other times, navy flights may be available by special arrangement.

By Train

No train. Layang-Layang is 300 km north-west of KK in the South China Sea.

By Car / Road

Not applicable — you must fly. No road access.

The island is very small (1.5 km). Walking is the only option.

What are the things to do?

  • Hammerhead sharks — Layang-Layang is famous for hammerheads, best April–June

  • Coral walls — steep walls with excellent visibility (30–60 m)

  • Dugongs — occasional sightings

  • Naval base — the island houses a Royal Malaysian Navy base

  • Scuba diving — the sole activity. Limited to resort guests. Dives at the Navy's discretion. Packages start from RM 3,000 for 5 nights.
