Mata Ayer

Perlis, Malaysia

Why visit Mata Ayer?

Mata Ayer is a small rural settlement in central Perlis, located along the main road between Kangar and the Thai border. The name means "water spring" in Malay, reflecting the area's history as a source of fresh water. Mata Ayer is primarily an agricultural village surrounded by padi fields and fruit orchards, with a population of a few hundred.

There is no tourism infrastructure — no hotels, no restaurants of note, and no dedicated attractions. Visitors pass through on the way to or from the Thai border at Padang Besar, and the main reason to stop would be to visit the fruit orchards or simply enjoy the quiet rural scenery.
