Chuping

Perlis, Malaysia

Why visit Chuping?

Chuping is a small town in the interior of Perlis, about 25 km east of Kangar, best known for the Chuping Valley — one of Malaysia's driest and hottest areas. The region was historically planted with sugarcane on a large scale by Chuping Sugar Cane Plantation (the largest in Malaysia), though production has declined in recent years. Today, the area is transitioning toward fruit and oil-palm cultivation.

The name "Chuping" is virtually synonymous with sugar in Malaysia — the town is the heart of the country's sugar belt, and the vast green cane fields stretching to the limestone hills create a distinctive landscape. There is little tourism infrastructure, and visitors come mainly for the scenic rural drives and the small Chuping market.
