Tangkak

Johor, Malaysia

Why visit Tangkak?

Tangkak is a town in northwestern Johor, about 30 km south of Segamat and 30 km north-east of Muar. It lies at the foot of Gunung Ledang (Mount Ophir), Johor's highest peak at 1,276 m. Historically a rubber and palm oil town, Tangkak has gained fame across Malaysia as the gateway to Gunung Ledang, the mountain that features prominently in the legendary tale of Puteri Gunung Ledang.

The town itself is compact and unpretentious, serving the surrounding agricultural area. It has a growing furniture industry, a significant Chinese community, and is known locally for its wanton mee (noodles). Tangkak offers a convenient base for hiking Gunung Ledang and visiting the Gunung Ledang Recreational Forest with its waterfalls.
