Endau-Rompin National Park

Why visit Endau-Rompin National Park?
Endau-Rompin National Park (Taman Negara Endau-Rompin) is a protected rainforest area straddling the Johor-Pahang border in southern Peninsular Malaysia, covering approximately 80,000 hectares. It is one of the oldest rainforest complexes in the world, estimated to be 248 million years old — even older than the well-known Taman Negara. Designated a national park in 1993, it protects the watersheds of the Endau and Rompin rivers.
The park is notable for its exceptional biodiversity: it hosts populations of the critically endangered Sumatran rhinoceros (possibly functionally extinct in the wild in Malaysia), the Asian elephant, Malayan tiger, tapir, and countless bird and insect species. The forest is dominated by giant dipterocarp trees, bamboo groves, and pitcher plants. The park has two main entry points: the Selai entrance from Johor (near Bekok) and the Kampung Peta entrance from the east (near Kahang). The park offers jungle trekking, river swimming, waterfall visits, and wildlife observation. The climate is tropical rainforest — hot and humid by day, cooler at night. The best visiting period is March–September; the northeast monsoon (November–February) brings heavy rain and some trails close.
