Ell is a commune in the canton of Redange, in western Luxembourg near the Belgian border, comprising the town of Ell itself alongside Colpach-Bas, Colpach-Haut, and Roodt. Population fell from 788 in 1821 to a low of 559 in 1981 before recovering to around 1,660 today. Its best-known landmark is Colpach Castle in Colpach-Bas, first documented in 1303 and built as a stronghold under the Counts of Luxembourg.
