Bascharage

Capellen, Luxembourg

Why visit Bascharage?

Bascharage is a town in the Capellen canton, southwestern Luxembourg, crossed by the Chiers river. Since 1 January 2012 it has been part of the Käerjeng municipality, formed by merging the former communes of Bascharage and Clemency and today comprising the villages of Bascharage, Clemency, Fingig, Hautcharage, and Linger. The town's economy was hit by the steel crisis of the 1970s, after which it diversified, attracting companies including General Motors and Luxguard to its industrial zone. Bascharage is home to Brasserie Nationale, producer of Bofferding beer and Luxembourg's largest brewery. The sculptor Claus Cito, creator of the Gëlle Fra war memorial in Luxembourg City, was born here.
