Steg
Triesenberg, Liechtenstein
Why visit Steg?
Steg is a quiet, idyllic alpine village located in a high valley at an altitude of 1,300 meters (4,260 feet) in the municipality of Triesenberg, Liechtenstein. Situated on the main route from the lower Rhine Valley to the mountain resort of Malbun, Steg is situated in a basin surrounded by towering peaks. It is famous for its tranquil, untouched alpine environment, traditional wooden huts, and two beautiful high-altitude lakes.
Originally a summer agricultural settlement where local farmers brought their cattle for pasture (a practice known as Alpabtrieb), Steg has retained its historic rustic charm. The village is characterized by its quiet atmosphere and lack of large commercial developments, making it a favorite retreat for hikers, cross-country skiers, and nature lovers seeking peace. The climate is subalpine, featuring warm, pleasant summers and snowy, quiet winters.
