Why visit?

Montserrado County is Liberia's smallest but most populous county, centred on the capital city of Monrovia. It is the political, economic, and cultural heart of Liberia, containing the country's main port, government buildings, and the most developed infrastructure. The county stretches along the Atlantic coast and includes the Mesurado River estuary, the Bushrod Island industrial area, and the suburbs of Paynesville, Brewerville, and Bensonville. Montserrado was heavily affected by Liberia's civil wars but has been rebuilding steadily since 2003.

When is the best time to visit?

The dry season (November–April) is the best time, with less rain and passable roads. Monrovia can be visited year-round but the wet season (May–October) brings daily heavy rain.
