Mokhotlong is the capital of Mokhotlong District in northeastern Lesotho, one of the most remote and highest-altitude towns in the country (over 2,200 m). It sits in a valley in the Maloti Mountains and is the main settlement in the eastern highlands. The area is known for its mountain scenery, trout fishing, and traditional Basotho culture.

The climate is alpine, with cold winters (snow possible) and mild summers.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Moshoeshoe I International Airport (IATA: MSU), about 200 km southwest.

By Car / Road

Mokhotlong is connected by the A1 highway to Butha-Buthe and Maseru. The road is paved and very scenic. The journey from Maseru takes about 3-4 hours.
