Jezzine
Al Janūb, Lebanon
Why visit Jezzine?
Jezzine is a mountain town in South Lebanon Governorate, at an average altitude of about 950 m, roughly 22 km from Sidon and about 40 km south of Beirut. Known as the "City of Falls," it is South Lebanon's main summer resort, set among pine-forested valleys and mountain peaks, and home to the Jezzine waterfall — at about 74 m, the tallest in Lebanon. The name is believed to derive from an Aramaic/Syriac word for "depot" or "store," reflecting the town's historic role on the caravan route linking Sidon to the Chouf, the Beqaa Valley, and Syria. Jezzine is also known across Lebanon for its handcrafted cutlery tradition, said to date to the el-Haddad family workshop founded in 1770, with cutlery- and table-service-making becoming a wider local craft from the 1930s onward; Jezzine knives and silverware have long been given as gifts to visiting dignitaries.
