Why visit Sasebo?

Sasebo (佐世保) is a port city in northern Nagasaki Prefecture, home to a US Navy base and the spectacular 99 Islands (Kujukushima) of the Saikai National Park. The city has a unique cultural blend of Japanese and American influences, reflected in its famous Sasebo Burger — claimed to be Japan's best American-style burger. The surrounding islands, with their emerald waters and pine-clad islets, are a major draw. Spring and autumn are the best seasons; summer is the peak season for island cruises.
