Why visit Corvara?
Corvara in Badia (Ladin: Corvara; German: Corvara in Abtei) is an Alpine village situated at 1,568 meters above sea level in the Val Badia valley of the Dolomites, within the South Tyrol (Alto Adige) province of northeastern Italy. Positioned in a basin between the Sella massif and the 2,665-meter peak of Sassongher, it functions as a primary resort village for the Alta Badia area. The local population speaks Ladin, a Rhaeto-Romance language native to these Dolomite valleys, alongside Italian and German.
The settlement sits directly on the Sellaronda, a circular ski and road circuit surrounding the Sella group. Visitors head here for direct entry into the Dolomiti Superski network, which covers 1,200 kilometers of connected winter slopes. In summer, the mountain lifts operate for hikers, via ferrata climbers, and cyclists accessing high alpine terrain and mountain huts (rifugi).
Corvara experiences an alpine climate marked by long, snowy winters and cool summers. Winter temperatures from December through March range between -8°C and 2°C, maintaining heavy snow cover across the valley floor. Summer from late June through August brings daytime highs between 15°C and 22°C, though night temperatures frequently drop below 10°C. May, June, and July receive the highest rainfall in the form of heavy afternoon showers.
