Procida

Campania, Italy

Why visit Procida?

Procida is the smallest island of the Gulf of Naples, rich in attractions and archaeology. The architecture of Procida has a Greek origin. In fact, the history of Procida is concentrated first of all in the medieval village “Terra Murata” and on “Corricella”, the fishing settlement. The landmarks of Procida reflect typical Mediterranean pastel colours.

How do you get there?

Procida is reached only by sea, with ferries and hydrofoils from Naples (Molo Beverello and Pozzuoli) and connections to Ischia; there is no bridge or airport on the island.

The island is small and can be explored on foot, by local bus, or by scooter/bicycle rental; the main port area and Corricella are both walkable from the ferry landing.

What are the things to do?

Terra Murata, the fortified medieval hilltop quarter built up around the 16th-century d'Avalos castle (later a Bourbon-era prison), and Corricella, the fishing port below it famous for its stacked pastel-colored houses, are the island's principal sights.

Wandering Corricella and Terra Murata, swimming at the island's beaches (including Chiaiolella), and boat trips around Procida and the small nearby island of Vivara are the main activities.
