Dibis

Kirkūk, Iraq

Why visit Dibis?

Dibis (Arabic: دبس, Kurdish: دەبس) is a town in Kirkūk Governorate, northern Iraq, located about 15 km northwest of Kirkuk city. The name means "molasses" in Arabic, a reference to the date molasses historically produced here. Dibis is known for the Dibis Dam (also called the Lower Zab Dam), a hydroelectric and irrigation dam on the Little Zab River, and for its oil fields, part of the larger Kirkuk oil belt. The landscape transitions from the central Iraqi plain to the Kurdish foothills. Summers are hot (40–45°C), winters cool and occasionally wet. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal.
