Moga
Punjab, India
Why visit Moga?
Moga is a city and district headquarters in the Malwa region of Punjab, set in the fertile agricultural plains between Ludhiana and Ferozepur. Long an important grain-trading and market town, Moga is one of Punjab's most prosperous agricultural districts and is known for its large NRI (non-resident Indian) population, whose remittances and return investment are visible in the town's growth. It is also home to significant food-processing and dairy industry. The district carries strong associations with Punjab's freedom struggle and the Indian National Army.
For travellers, Moga is a workaday Punjabi town rather than a sightseeing destination, but it sits conveniently on the road and rail routes through Malwa and offers an authentic slice of rural Punjabi life, hospitable people and hearty food. Its memorial park and gurdwaras give it a quiet local character.
The Malwa climate is hot and dry, with intense summers (April–June), a short monsoon (July–September), and cool, pleasant winters. October to March is the most comfortable time to visit.

By Plane
Moga has no airport. The nearest is Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport at Amritsar (ATQ), with domestic and some international flights; Chandigarh (IXC) and Delhi (DEL) are the larger gateways. Continue from the airport by road or rail.
By Train
Moga railway station connects the town to the Punjab rail network, with services linking it toward Ferozepur and Ludhiana and onward connections from there. For wider long-distance options, Ludhiana Junction (about 70 km) is the nearest major railhead. Reserve seats in advance for long journeys.
By Car / Road
Road is the most convenient way to reach Moga, which lies on the Ludhiana–Ferozepur highway. Regular buses connect it with Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Faridkot and other Malwa towns, and Moga can easily be reached by bus or train from Ferozepur or Ludhiana. Punjab Roadways and private buses serve the town's bus stand.
Moga has an extensive local bus network covering the town and surrounding district. Auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws handle shorter trips; agree the fare first. The central market and bus-stand area are walkable, and taxis can be hired for trips into the surrounding countryside.
What are the things to do?
Shahidi Park (Park of the Martyrs), 1 Partap Road, Jawahar Nagar — a memorial park honouring the 26 people killed in a 1989 terrorist attack at the site; a committee pays tribute to the victims on the first Sunday after 25 June each year, and the park serves as a quiet public space and place of remembrance.
Local gurdwaras and temples — the town's community shrines, central to daily religious life.
Spend time in the central bazaar to experience an authentic Malwa market town, busy with grain and produce trade.
Visit Shahidi Park for a quiet walk and to learn the local history it commemorates.
Use Moga as a base for drives through the agricultural Malwa countryside and visits to surrounding villages.

Where to drink?
As across Punjab, the everyday drinks are lassi, chai and seasonal sweet-shop beverages such as milk badam and sharbat. Bazaar sweet shops serve cold milk-based drinks. Drink bottled or filtered water rather than tap water.
