Why visit Akranes?

Akranes is a coastal town at the base of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, about 50 km north of Reykjavík. The town offers beautiful views across Faxaflói Bay, with the Snæfellsjökull glacier visible on clear days. The Akranes Folk Museum provides fascinating insight into 19th-century Icelandic coastal life.
