Mettlach

Mettlach is home to Villeroy & Boch, the ceramics and tableware manufacturer, whose headquarters occupy the town's former Benedictine abbey and whose factory outlet and Discovery Centre draw visitors year-round. Just outside town is the Saarschleife, the dramatic horseshoe bend of the river Saar and one of Saarland's best-known natural landmarks, viewed classically from the Cloef lookout point.

By train

Mettlach has two rail stations on the Saarstrecke that runs between Saarbrücken and Trier .

By car

Mettlach is on the B51 road to Konz , 9 km north of Merzig .

The town centre is walkable; the Saarschleife/Cloef viewpoint is reachable by local bus or a signposted hiking trail.

The classic activity is the hike out to the Cloef viewpoint over the Saarschleife, part of the wider Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail network.
