Why visit Saarwellingen?

Saarwellingen is a small Saarland municipality centred on its Schloss (castle), first mentioned as a fortification in 1376 and rebuilt as a small Baroque castle in 1715–1719 for the Counts of Kriechingen under East Frisian authority. The castle burned in 1766, was auctioned off during the French Revolutionary period, later became the village schoolhouse, was damaged in 1944–45 fighting and rebuilt by 1948, and has served as the town hall since 1976–77.

Saarwellingen is reached by road from Saarlouis, a few kilometres to the west, and by regional bus.

The village centre is small and walkable.
