Why visit Bedele?

Bedele (also known as Buno Bedele) is a town in south-western Ethiopia, headquarters of the Buno Bedele Zone of the Oromia Region, about 433 km from Addis Ababa. It is best known nationally as home to Bedele Brewery, founded in 1993 as a state-owned brewer and acquired by Heineken in 2011; the brewery has an annual production capacity of 550,000 hectoliters, employs over 200 people, and makes several of Ethiopia's well-known beer brands (including Bedele and Walia). Otherwise the town functions as a market and administrative center for the surrounding agricultural communities of the coffee- and grain-growing western highlands.
