Mongomo is a city in eastern mainland Equatorial Guinea, near the border with Gabon. It is the birthplace of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and has benefited from significant development and investment, including the monumental Basilica of Mongomo, one of the largest churches in Africa. The city is the capital of Wele-Nzas Province.

Mongomo is a clean, orderly city with a small-town atmosphere. It sits in a region of rolling hills and forest. The basilica and the nearby presidential complex are the city's most notable landmarks.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Mongomo does not have its own airport. The nearest airports are Bata (BSG) and the new Ciudad de la Paz international airport.

By Car / Road

Paved roads connect Mongomo to Bata (about 80 km west) and the Gabon border. Bush taxis and private vehicles are the main options.

Mongomo is small and walkable. Taxis are available.
