Why visit Ciudad de la Paz?
Ciudad de la Paz (formerly known as Oyala and Djibloho) is a newly built planned city in the rainforest of mainland Equatorial Guinea, intended to replace Malabo as the national capital. Construction began in the 2010s and the city was officially inaugurated in 2017. It is located in Wele-Nzas Province, roughly midway between Bata and Mongomo.
The city features modern government buildings, a university campus, an international airport, and a large convention centre, all set in a cleared area of dense tropical forest. It is one of the most ambitious urban development projects in Africa. Ciudad de la Paz is still under development, with many areas incomplete.
