Why visit Manfalut?

Manfalut is a town on the west bank of the Nile in Asyut Governorate, roughly 350 km south of Cairo. Cotton and other Nile Valley crops are the base of the local economy, and the town has been noted as a regional Islamic center. Its best-known landmark is the Al-Kashef Mosque, founded by Prince Ali al-Kashef Jamal al-Din; historical photographs of the market in front of the mosque date back to the 1850s, during the reign of Muhammad Said Pasha, indicating the mosque's long standing as a local landmark.
