Partido
Cibao Noroeste, Dominican Republic
Why visit Partido?
Partido is a small municipality in the Dajabón province of the Cibao Noroeste region, located near the Haitian border in the mountainous interior of the northwest Dominican Republic. With a population of around 8,000, it is one of the most remote and least-visited towns in the country, surrounded by steep mountains, dry forests, and the headwaters of several rivers.
The town sits in the foothills of the Cordillera Central, at a higher elevation than the arid lowlands to the north, giving it a slightly cooler climate and more vegetation. The economy is based on subsistence agriculture (beans, corn, coffee) and livestock. Partido has a frontier character — isolated, traditional, and largely untouched by tourism.
The climate is warm, with temperatures averaging 22–30°C. The rainy season (May–October) brings heavier rainfall to the mountain areas.
