Why visit Kimpese?

Kimpese is a market town located along Route nationale 1 (N1) in Kongo Central province, positioned between the coastal towns and the interior. With a population of around 12,000, it serves as a stopover point for travelers between Matadi and Kinshasa. The town is known for its historic Catholic mission, which established a significant presence here during the Belgian colonial period.

The surrounding region is agricultural, with cassava, palm oil, and coffee cultivation being the main economic activities. Kimpese has a small-town character with a central market area and residential neighborhoods. Its position on the main road ensures a steady flow of traffic and commerce. The climate is tropical, with temperatures around 25–30°C year-round.

The Catholic mission in Kimpese played an important role in the development of the area, establishing schools, churches, and health facilities that continue to serve the community. This heritage is evident in the town's built environment.
