Why visit Hanicka artillery fortress?

Hanická artillery fortress (Dělostřelecká tvrz Hanická) is a military fortification located near the village of Hanice in the Pardubice Region of eastern Bohemia. Built in the 1930s as part of the Czechoslovak border fortifications, it is one of several fortified positions constructed to defend against potential German invasion. The fortress features a network of underground galleries, gun casemates, and observation posts, representing the military engineering of the interwar period.

The fortress was never used in combat — the Munich Agreement of 1938 forced Czechoslovakia to abandon its border fortifications before they could be tested in battle. Today, Hanická is preserved as a military museum and memorial, offering guided tours through its underground tunnels and chambers. The surrounding countryside is quiet and agricultural. The site is of interest primarily to military history enthusiasts.
