Concon

Concón is a coastal city of approximately 50,000 in the Valparaíso Region, 15 km north of Viña del Mar. It sits at the mouth of the Aconcagua River where it meets the Pacific, and is a popular summer destination for its beaches, dunes, and seafood restaurants. The world-class surf break at Concón draws surfers from across Chile.

By Plane

Arturo Merino Benítez Airport (SCL) in Santiago is 110 km southeast. Buses from Valparaíso run every 20 minutes (30 min, CLP 1,000).

By Car / Road

From Viña del Mar, take the coastal road north for 15 km (20 min).

The town centre is compact and walkable. Local taxis and colectivos cover the residential areas.

• Playa Concón: a long dark-sand beach, the main summer attraction.

• Dunas de Concón: a protected dune system at the river mouth, with walking trails.

• Costanera: the seafront promenade with seafood restaurants.

• Mirador de Concón: a viewpoint over the coast and dunes.

• Surfing: the break at the river mouth is one of Chile's best beach breaks.

• Seafood dining: Concón is famous for its seafood restaurants, especially the cevicherías.

• Dune walking: the protected dunes offer panoramic views.

• Fishing: the river mouth is a popular shore-fishing spot.

• Restaurante El Dino (mid-range): the most famous seafood restaurant in Concón — try the ceviche, paila marina, and machas a la parmesana. Mains CLP 8,000–18,000.
• Cocinería La Playa (budget): empanadas and fried fish. Mains CLP 3,000–6,000.

Tap water is safe to drink. There are a few simple bars and cafés on the main square.

• Budget: Hostal Concón (shared CLP 12,000).
• Mid-range: Hotel Costanera (private CLP 40,000–60,000).

• Mercado local: a small market selling fresh produce and basic goods.
• Almacenes de la plaza: grocery stores for daily needs.

• Quintero (25 km north, 25 min): beach town with a working port.
