Casablanca

Casablanca is a city of approximately 28,000 in the Valparaíso Region, 40 km southeast of Valparaíso. It is the centre of the Casablanca Valley wine region, one of Chile's most important wine-producing areas, known for cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Founded in 1753, it was historically a stop on the road between Santiago and Valparaíso.

Arturo Merino Benítez Airport (SCL) in Santiago is 70 km east. Buses from Valparaíso run hourly (45 min, CLP 2,000).

By Car / Road

On Route 68, 40 km southeast of Valparaíso (30 min) and 70 km west of Santiago (50 min).

The town centre is compact and walkable. Local taxis and colectivos cover the residential areas.

• Plaza de Armas: the main square with a bandstand and church.

• Museo de Casablanca: a small history museum.

• Wineries: 20+ wineries in the valley, including Casas del Bosque, Kingston, Loma Larga, and William Cole.

• Wine tasting: the Casablanca Valley is one of Chile's top wine tourism destinations. Most wineries offer tours and tastings (CLP 10,000–25,000).

• Gastronomic experiences: several wineries have top-tier restaurants.

• Hiking: Cerro La Cruz has a short trail with valley views.

• Restaurante Casa de Campo (mid-range): Chilean food with wine pairings. Mains CLP 8,000–16,000.
• Cocinería La Ruta (budget): empanadas. Mains CLP 3,000–5,000.
• Winery restaurants: the wineries offer some of the finest dining in the region.

Tap water is safe to drink. There are a few simple bars and cafés on the main square.

• Budget: Hostal Casablanca (shared CLP 10,000).
• Mid-range: Hotel Casablanca (private CLP 35,000–55,000).
• Upscale: Casas del Bosque Hotel (CLP 100,000–150,000, winery accommodation).

• Mercado local: a small market selling fresh produce and basic goods.
• Almacenes de la plaza: grocery stores for daily needs.

• Valparaíso (40 km west, 30 min): historic port.
• Viña del Mar (35 km west, 30 min): beach resort.
• Santiago (70 km east, 50 min): national capital.
