Penco
Biobío, Chile
Why visit Penco?
Penco is a coastal city of approximately 50,000 in the Biobío Region, 10 km north of Concepción. It was one of the earliest Spanish settlements in Chile (founded in 1557 as the original Concepción) before the city relocated south after repeated Mapuche attacks. Penco grew as a coal port and industrial centre in the 19th and 20th centuries, and today it balances industrial activity with its historical heritage and seaside character.
