Mfou

Mfou is a town in Cameroon's Centre Region, about 21 km east of Yaoundé, and functions largely as a satellite town of the capital. The surrounding commune had roughly 37,000 residents at the 2005 census (about 10,500 in the town itself), and most inhabitants work in subsistence farming. Mfou's main claim to visitor interest is the nearby Mefou National Park (also known as the Mefou Primate Sanctuary), a forested reserve roughly an hour to ninety minutes from Yaoundé by road that shelters primates rescued from the bushmeat and pet trade, including gorillas, chimpanzees, and various Old World monkeys — it draws day-trippers from the capital rather than overnight visitors to Mfou town itself.
