Centre

The Centre Region (Région du Centre) is Cameroon's administrative and political hub, covering roughly 69,000 square kilometres on the South Cameroon Plateau. Centred on the national capital, Yaoundé, the region transitions from equatorial evergreen rainforest in the south and east to semi-deciduous forest and wooded savanna along the Sanaga River basin in the north. The area is populated predominantly by Beti-Pahuin ethnic groups—including the Ewondo, Eton, Bulu, and Bassa—whose farming communities and chiefdoms shape rural life.

Travelers generally use the region as Cameroon's primary transit hub, exploring national museums, government landmarks, and diplomatic quarters in Yaoundé before venturing outward. • Major Dry Season (Mid-November to February): The best window for travel across the region. Low rainfall, clear skies, and daytime temperatures around 28–32°C (82–90°F) keep paved highways and unpaved dirt roads in their best condition.
• Short Dry Season (July to August): A secondary travel window marked by overcast skies, lower humidity, and cooler daytime temperatures of 24–27°C (75–81°F). Rainfall drops significantly between the two wet cycles.
• Minor Rainy Season (March to June): Regular afternoon downpours with temperatures between 26°C and 30°C (79–86°F). Rural dirt tracks become muddy, though main paved corridors remain fully passable.
• Major Rainy Season (September to Mid-November): The wettest period of the year, peaking in October. Heavy, sustained storms frequently cause localized road flooding and make unpaved rural tracks impassable.

By Air

Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport (IATA: NSI) is the region's main commercial airport, situated 27 km south of central Yaoundé. The airport accommodates scheduled international flights from carriers including Air France, Brussels Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, ASKY, and Royal Air Maroc. Domestic flights operated by Camair-Co connect Yaoundé to Douala (45 minutes) and northern hubs like Garoua and Maroua (1.5–2 hours). Official airport taxis charge a standard fare of 5,000–10,000 XAF ($8–$16 USD) for the 35–50 minute trip into downtown Yaoundé.

By Train

Camrail operates passenger rail services from Yaoundé Central Station (Gare Voyageurs).
