Cendajuru

Cendajuru is a commune in the southern part of Cankuzo Province, Burundi, near the Tanzanian border. The area is rural and agricultural, with residents engaged in small-scale farming of maize, beans, cassava, and sweet potatoes. The commune is named after its administrative centre.

Cendajuru is extremely off the tourist trail. There is no tourism infrastructure, and visitors are rare. The area offers an authentic glimpse into rural Burundian life in the eastern border region.

Cendajuru is reached via secondary roads from Cankuzo town. A 4x4 is recommended, especially during the rainy season.

Hiking and exploring the rural countryside. The Tanzanian border area can be observed from the hills.

Local food is available from small kitchens and stalls in the commune centre.
