Antonovo
Targovishte, Bulgaria
Why visit Antonovo?
Antonovo is a small town of around 1,450 people in Targovishte Province, northeastern Bulgaria, at about 433 m elevation in the Slannik hills near the border with Veliko Tarnovo Province. It is the administrative centre of Antonovo Municipality, an agricultural area with a notably aged population — a majority of residents are 65 or older, which also explains the region's high headline unemployment figure, since much of the population is retired rather than job-seeking. The municipality holds an annual traditional fair, the Antonovski panair, generally in early-to-mid June, and villages within the municipality hold smaller local gatherings around St George's Day (6 May) and other traditional dates.
